Running Your Season
Once your pool is set up and players have joined, here's what to expect week to week through the season.
Each Week, In Order
- The week opens. Once a new NFL week begins, players can start submitting picks for that week's games.
- Players submit picks. A pick can be changed any time before that specific game kicks off. Once a game starts, that pick is locked — even if other games that week haven't started yet.
- Games are played, scores come in.
- Results are processed. Once game results are available, the system applies them: winning picks survive, losing picks are eliminated, and any no-pick or bye rules you've configured are applied automatically.
- Standings update. Players can check who's alive, who's eliminated, and why, at any time.
Entering or Reviewing Scores
Your commissioner dashboard includes a results screen where you can review and confirm the status of each game for the current week.
A note on this section: exactly how scores reach your dashboard (fully automatic, or requiring your manual confirmation) can depend on your pool and your plan. If you're not sure whether you need to take any action during game days, check your dashboard during a game week or reach out to
support@thecommish.app and we'll confirm your pool's setup.
Once all of a week's games are marked complete, result processing runs automatically — eliminating losing picks and updating standings without any extra step from you.
Reviewing Eliminations and No-Picks
After each week processes, your Commissioner Picks view (accessible per-week from your dashboard) shows you, at a glance:
- Total entries
- Entries still alive
- Entries that didn't submit a pick that week
- Entries eliminated that week
This is a good place to check in after each week's results process, especially early in the season when players are still getting used to your no-pick rules.
Standings
Your pool's Standings page always shows the current state of play — who's alive, who's eliminated, what week they went out in, and why (lost pick, no pick, etc., translated into plain language). If you're using Leagues & Divisions, standings show tabs for Overall, plus each league and division.
Players can view this themselves any time — you don't need to share updates manually, though many commissioners like to anyway as part of keeping their group engaged.
When Your Pool Reaches a Winner
See the Prizes & Tiebreakers guide for what happens when your pool, or a league or division within it, comes down to a winner — including how ties are resolved and how to award prizes.
A Season-Long Checklist
- Confirm your pool's settings are correct before Week 1 opens (no-pick rule, byes, double picks, etc. — these are hard to change fairly mid-season once players are relying on them)
- Share your join link or embed widget with your players before picks open
- Check in on your dashboard each week, especially around game time
- Review your Commissioner Picks view after results process each week
- Keep an eye on your dashboard for the "Results need your review" alert once your pool nears a winner
